For the big players in SEO tools like Ahrefs and SEMRush are heavy on tools that you need to be successful online. However if you are on a budget there are free options that do just as much to help analyze and improve your Google ranking. Because I work with small budget clients, I’m very used to using a lot of these tools and highly recommend them for your needs:
Small SEO Tools.
My number 1 go to free SEO site is Small SEO Tools. It has just about everything you need to check your website and improve your SEO. Some of my favorites include the grammer checker, word count tool, keyword tool, and meta tag analyzer. But that doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the different functions available on this site. If you can’t afford a big budget SEO tool, you will likely find a serviceable replacement somewhere on this site.
Google Search Console.
Formerly Google Webmaster Tools, Google Search Console is a modern update that gives you all you need to know to improve your website. Search Console provides analytics for your Google searches, backlink counter, page speed insights and much more. You also have the ability to give Google direction for your site, including requesting Google to remove outdated pages.
Copyscape.
Duplicate content can get you into a lot of trouble. So can stealing someone else’s content and passing it off on your own. I love using Copyscape to scan my client’s pages to know if there are any potential issues. It’s especially useful and telling you if you have content that is plagiarized, with pinpoint accuracy. Copyscape will also let you know if anyone is out there stealing your content and trying to pass it off as their own. From there you can contact the guilty party to try to get them to remove your work from their site.
FYI copying content is a very popular black hat SEO trick that your competition may try to pull on you to rank your website lower.
WAVE Web Accessibility Tool.
Is your website ADA compliant? WAVE will tell you if you have any errors on your site that could get you in legal trouble. Lawsuits against websites that don’t meet disability accessibility standards are rising in the United States. If your website has any errors that make it difficult for people with disabilities to navigate, you could face potential fines. WAVE is the most thorough checker out there, although I think it goes a bit too far, digging into certain code that wouldn’t impact the person’s ability to navigate your site.
WooRank.
It’s not technically free, but the free version of WooRank gives you quite a bit of information on how to improve the SEO on your site. You copy and paste your URL into the WooRank front page and it will scan your site and tell you any area where you need to improve your online marketing. The free version offers you some limited functions, however you will get a good idea of where you’re at, and you can always opt to pay for the full suggested list of improvements.
